What's On

Culture
Working with the Darfuri community living in the UK today, gain an insight on aspects of the language, history and culture of the people living in the Darfur region through stories, workshops and exhibition.

HEAR...
Scattered Stories: Folk Tales gathered from Darfur and the Sudan
Young Storyteller of the Year 2007, Rachel Rose Reid, narrates traditional folk stories from Darfur and Sudan collected through conversations with Darfuris living in the UK, specially commissioned for 'The 11th Hour'.

EXPERIENCE...
Participate in workshops led by Darfuris, about the languages, culture, food and history of the peoples - offering visitors to the '11th Hour' unique insight into the people of Darfur and as a place rich with tradition and life, not merely the ravaged conflict zone we've come to see it as.

PLAY...
We've collated eyewitness accounts, testimonies and interviews with people in Darfur (Internally Displaced Persons, Aid workers, Tribes people) both contemporary and historic to give you a first-hand insight into the conflict. We invite you to read out interviews yourself - like a play reading but it's real and you're the actor.

SEE...
Darfur: Exile and Memory
A unique collection of acclaimed watercolour paintings by Darfuri artist Mohamedin Bakhat presenting his personal response to the life of the Zaghawa people and their experiences in the current conflict.

Also have a look at the timeline, objects and models on display in the room.
